The Nandamojo valley is the perfect place to bring your family for an authentic Costa Rican experience on your next vacation. The Nandamojo area includes Playa Negra, Playa Junquilla and Playa Avellana; the Nandamojo valley is one of the few remaining areas on the northern Pacific coast where local culture has not been changed or replaced by the development of tourism and the influx of foreign residents.

The Nandamojo Valley is a 29,000-acre watershed nestled along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province. During the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, an influx of settlers cleared the valley to create cattle ranches, shaping the local economy, culture and traditions in ways that still define the area.

The watershed is an important source of potable water for its 3,000 residents and those of nearby communities. It also provides habitat for hundreds of species of migratory birds, howler monkeys, and endangered sea turtles.

Local businesses and community leaders have formed the Nandamojo Valley Chamber of Commerce to ensure that the area’s development does not come at the expense of the watershed ecosystem or local values.
